Soil and Vegetation

Soil:

Several soil types can be found in the area. These develop mainly from basalt, trachyte and or granite base rocks. Many others are formed through alluvial deposits and organic matter. Soil type comprises clay, sandy humus and marshy soils. Reddish in fertile abound on hills. The wide variety of soil types offers a diversity of opportunities to the farmers of the area.

Vegetation:

The vegetation of Kumbo is similar to the characteristics of the Sudan Savanna, influenced by rainfall and altitude. As such, there are sparse forest areas and areas of Herbaceous cover. Added to this vegetation specificity, there is also swampy grassland characterized by species adapted to wetland ecosystems like the raffia viniferous and raffia guanines. These are common around the neighbourhood where there are streams, in some areas of the Bui river valley, and in virtually all the valleys. Grassland forms the majority of the vegetation.

Characteristic species in the grassland fields are the pennesetumpropureu, ferns and other thick tufts of grass. Given that much farming takes place in the region, burning has greatly modified the herbaceous cover. Rough savannah grass grows in the hills, soft grass on farmlands, elephant stalks and reeds along the banks of streams.
